I had come across a black & white photo from this historic fight and had to put my own spin on it with color. I love what Joe represents for the city of Detroit. In their second encounter, Joe Louis, sought to avenge his only professional loss to Schmeling from their 1936 fight. The 1938 rematch transcended sports, symbolizing a stand against the ideologies of a WW2 Germany, with Louis representing American resilience and unity. Louis dominated the fight, knocking Schmeling down three times in the first round, leading to a technical knockout victory.
